HOW TO FIX LOOSE DEAD
BUMPER CAPS ON PINBALL MACHINES
By Alan Lewis
A common
problem when fixing old pinball machines is loose bumper caps. Either you are trying to re-use the original
cap or you bought a new one but the cap will not snap over the original bumper
body because it is distorted and shrunken.
This method
revives the snap action of the cap over old bumper bodies.
NOTES:
· I usually use a quality Neoprene self adhesive rubber cut from a sheet I
bought from McMaster Carr. The Neoprene
will last much longer than a rubber band, but a rubber band is quick and cheap
and most people can quickly try out the method.
· You can make the fit tighter by using a longer piece of rubber or using
more, smaller pieces. Only put them on a
third of the circle so you can compress the rubber while snapping over the
body.
